PSL 12 is Here: Eight Teams, One Champion in 2027

Sharing is Karing

The Pakistan Super League is officially returning for its 12th edition, and the dates are locked in. The PCB has confirmed that HBL PSL 12 will run from 18 March to 2 May 2027, with all eight franchises competing for the coveted title.

The Dates Are Set

The announcement came on Thursday, 8 October 2026, following extensive consultations with key stakeholders. The tournament window was finalised at the PSL Governing Council meeting held in London on 1 September 2026, attended by owners and representatives of all eight franchises.

PSL 12 will retain the expanded eight-team format for a second successive season, following the league’s growth from six to eight teams in 2026. The eight franchises set to compete are: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Hyderabad Kingsmen, and Rawalpindiz.

Building on a Landmark Season

The 2026 campaign (PSL 11) was a transformative one for the league. It featured the introduction of the eight team format for the first time, as well as the league’s maiden player auction, which replaced the traditional draft system. The final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium drew a record crowd of 32,461 spectators.

Peshawar Zalmi were crowned champions after defeating debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final on 3 May 2026, ending a nine-year wait for the title.

What’s Next for PSL 12

With the tournament window now confirmed, preparations for the 2027 season will gather pace. Several key milestones lie ahead before the first ball is bowled, including direct signings, player retentions, the trade window, and the player auction.

The PCB has confirmed that further details regarding the complete match schedule, venues, player auction specifics, and ticketing arrangements will be announced in due course.

Leadership Speaks

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence that PSL 12 would build on the momentum of the previous season.

“PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of – thrilling moments that had the whole nation transfixed, record crowds, record broadcasts. PSL 12 will raise the bar further. We are committed to delivering another outstanding season and look forward to seeing all eight franchises compete once again for the title.”

PSL CEO Salman Naseer echoed that sentiment, stating that the league was determined to meet the expectations set by the expanded 2026 edition.

“Last season changed what people expect from this league and we intend to meet every one of those expectations in 2027. Today’s announcement is only the first step; direct signings, retentions, the trade window and the auction will each bring their own excitement in the months ahead.”

The IPL Clash Continues

For the third consecutive year, PSL 12 will overlap with the Indian Premier League, as the PCB has again opted for a March-May window. The decision was made after a majority of franchises voted in favour of the March-May slot over an alternative January-February window, which was deemed logistically unviable due to dense winter fog in Punjab, a key PSL region.
